West Bloomfield DECA Visits Michigan

West Bloomfield High School DECA Board Learns First-Hand About Sports Marketing

Ann Arbor, MI- On Friday, December 6, thirteen members of the West Bloomfield High School DECA board traveled to Ann Arbor, Michigan to learn first hand about Sports and Entertainment Marketing. The afternoon's activities were centered around Sports and Entertainment Marketing. The activities were coordinated by the high school marketing department teachers Julie Zalla, Jacqueline Evola, Laura Wowk and paraprofessional Lisa Sallen.

Students began the day's journey with a private tour of Michigan Stadium. Students learned interesting details about the marketing and event planning involved with football games and other large events at the stadium. The highlight was the student's opportunity to visit the player locker room and run across the field.

West Bloomfield High School Marketing teacher Jacqueline Evola stated, "It was such a great experience to have the entire field to ourselves and to see our students enjoy every minute of it."

Teacher Julie Zalla stated, "This is one of those days not only will I remember, but I know they will remember too. I can sit in front of the class and teach all day about Sports and Entertainment Marketing, but to be in the stadium, on the field and in the locker rooms is something you can't adequately describe in pictures, videos or words."

After the leaving the stadium, the group met with West Bloomfield High School DECA Alumni at Cottage Inn Pizza for dinner. Students had an opportunity to ask questions not only about college life and Michigan, but also what it took for them to be so successful in DECA. The alumni shared what they had gained from their DECA experience as well as some suggestions as to the classes they found most beneficial in high school.
