West Bloomfield Football Coach Bellamy Headed To U-M: Report
Former Michigan and Detroit Lions wide receiver Ron Bellamy led West Bloomfield to a state title. Now, he could be returning to Ann Arbor.

WEST BLOOMFIELD, MI — Just days removed from a win in the Michigan high school Division 1 State Championship game at Ford Field Saturday, West Bloomfield head football coach Ron Bellamy thanked the West Bloomfield community for its support.
Meanwhile, multiple reports suggest Bellamy will be moving on from the high school game to take an assistant coaching position with his alma mater, the Michigan Wolverines.
"Twelve years ago God sent me to West Bloomfield to do his work," Bellamy said in a statement on Twitter Monday. "The West Bloomfield community welcomed my wife and I with open arms. My kids were born and immediately became a part of the football program, WBHS, and the community.

"I've become a better man, husband, father, and coach because of the experiences I gained throughout my time at WB. I'm forever grateful for my experiences, the good times and the not so good times that helped mold me into a better teacher, mentor and coach."

Bellamy accepted an offer to join the University of Michigan football staff to coach wide receivers, according to a report from 247Sports. The move has not been formally announced by either side, however.

Prior to taking over at West Bloomfield, Bellamy had a brief NFL career, playing for four franchises including the Detroit Lions from 2003-08.
Bellamy was the head football coach at West Bloomfield for 11 years. In that time, the school reached the playoffs seven straight years, including two appearances in the Divison 1 state title game and Saturday's championship win.
The school had only two playoff appearances prior to Bellamy's arrival, according to 247Sports.
In August 2012, Bellamy sat down with Patch for an interview about the former Wolverines wide receiver's time in Ann Arbor and, in particular, a bowl game against the Alabama Crimson Tide.
People from within the West Bloomfield community as well as outside congratulated Bellamy on social media.
Congrats coach, couldn’t be happier for you and your family. Take care and stay in touch.
