West Bloomfield Kids Pick Up Robotics Award
Awards presented in various categories at Oakland County Competitive Robotics Association Diversity Tournament.

Team No. 123 from the Oakland Schools Technical Campus Southwest campus in Wixom was crowned the winner of the Oakland County Competitive Robotics Association Diversity Tournament at Marian High School in Bloomfield Hills on Saturday.
The Wixom team scored 92 points, followed by Team No. 1 from the Oakland Schools Technical Campus Northeast in Pontiac in second place with 86 points and Team No. 245 from Rochester Adams High School in third place, also with 86 points, according to a news release.
Judges Debra Antinossi, Anne Nitoski, M. Nitoski, Jennifer Pakkala, Michael Romano, and Jamie Scribner awarded the Beautiful Bot Award to Team No. 9 from Orchard Lake St. Mary’s for its robot with orange rubber tubes. Judges said the robot looked like it was “sailing across the lake.”

Team No.. 2960 from Birmingham Seaholm and Groves High schools captured the Technical Excellence Award for the team’s strong technical understanding. Judges described the team’s robot design as robust, elegant, and flexible enough to perform all tasks.
The Strategic Design Award went to Team No. 302 from Lake Orion High School for a successful combination of motors, pneumatics, and Omni wheels, which allowed them to drive anywhere on the field.

Team No. 803 from Walled Lake Western High School won the Quality Award using wooden prototypes that helped the team create a solid design going into competition.
One of the two Judge’s Awards went to Team No. 1346 from University High School Academy of Southfield for perseverance, recognizing improvements that needed to be made, and creating a plan for improvements.
The other Judge’s Award the Community Spirit Award went to Team No. 573 made up of students from Brother Rice and Marian High Schools. The team was one of the friendliest on the field, sharing everything from resources to hugs with other teams and people.
Team No. 5053 from Our Lady of the Lakes High School in Waterford Township won the team the Spirit of the Competition Award.
The next competition is the Orchard Lake St. Mary’s Tournament at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, at St. Mary’s Athletic Complex, 3535 Indian Trail, West Bloomfield Township.
