Wine and Cheese for Adults, DJ Tips for Teens, Comics for Kids
The West Bloomfield Parks & Recreation has something coming up for all ages.

WEST BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP, MI – The registration deadline is Feb. 29 for a West Bloomfield Parks & Recreation Commission wine and cheese tasting trip to northeast Michigan on March 31.
The trip for individuals 50 and older includes roundtrip motor coach transportation and the following activities:
- Sample and shop at Williams Cheese Company (Pinconning Cheese);
- Lunch on your own at H & H Bakery;
- Wine tasting at Modern Craft Winery;
- Tour, sample and shop at Britt’s Maple Syrup Farm (be sure to dress warmly and bring a jacket and boots for this part of the tour);
- Sample and shop at Sherni’s Candies;
- Dinner at Iva’s Chicken Dinners.
This will be a joint trip with a group from Independence Township. The cost is $79/person for residents or $89/person for nonresidents.
Several other programs are coming up from Parks & Recreation, including:
Featured class — “How to Get into the DJ Business”
- Classes for ages 15 and older will be held from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., Feb. 27-April 2 at Marshbank Park. The class includes basic DJ skills, special skills for weddings, and tips on the right equipment to use and music to play, contacts to make, etiquette to follow and how to get started in the business. Register by Sunday, Feb. 21 and save 50 percent off the registration fees. Residents will pay $101.50 and nonresidents will pay $106.50.
Karate Starts Feb. 27
- Tiny Tornadoes, ages 4-5.5, 12-12:30 pm: Expose your children to what martial arts is in a fun and safe environment. The certified instructor will focus on teaching the children focus, listening skills, discipline and a variety of basic self-defense techniques.
- Karate Kids, ages 7+, 9:30-10:30 am: In this program, the certified instructor will teach focus, listening skills, discipline and a variety of self-defense techniques that will keep your family safe and strong.
- The $35 uniform sold separately (required) payable to TRUE Martial Arts at the first class. Classes take place at TRUE Martial Arts, located at 32502 Northwestern Hwy.
Cartoon Drawing Class
- An action figure illustrator and cartoonist for Marvel Comics will lead this class for ages 6-2, from 10-11 a.m., Feb. 27-April 4, at Marshbank Park Lodge. Participants will learn to draw “Super Heroes and Heroines” by breaking down the human figure in motion into fundamental shapes and cartoon form to form exciting and colorful characters.
