Community Service Important Part of International Academy Curriculum
Some 1,500 students benefitted nearly 20 Detroit-area community organizations.

Students at the three campuses of the nationally regarded International Academy recently participated in a community service day that benefitted nearly 20 Detroit and Detroit-area community organizations.
Some 1,500 students school, ranked No. 8 in Newsweek’s top high schools for 2015, the International Academy participated, showing the school boasts more than academic prowess and college readiness, according to a news release.

Freshmen, sophomores and seniors worked on in-school projects such as making sandwiches, “friendship soup” activity books, and board games, while juniors worked on-site at locations such as the Urban Development Corporation/
“The goal of the International Baccalaureate program is to develop well-rounded individuals,” explained Sarah Clancy, Okma Campus English teacher, and lead organizer for the service day.

“Working as an IA community serving the greater community allowed students to experience the value of teamwork, communication and collaboration, and importantly, how small acts of kindness influences and helps so many,” Clancy said.
