Cuteness Overload Under 2.5 Pounds of Hairy Mess

What happened when man found stray dog will melt your heart.

GROSSE POINTE, MI – A dog found wandering in Metro Detroit had so much matted hair he couldn’t see, could barely walk and didn’t even look like a canine, according to an animal rescue group.

The Grosse Pointe Animal Adoption Society wrote on its facebook page that a man who found the wandering male shih tzu and took him to the facilities at 296 Chalfonte Ave. in Grosse Pointe Farms about noon Tuesday.

Dr. David Balaj, a veterinarian at nearby Harper Woods Veterinary Hospital, shaved 2.5 pounds of filthy, matted hair from the 15-pound dog the rescue group named Dakota.

Dakota is believed to be about 5 years old.

On Facebook, dozens of people commented on the post with offers to adopt Dakota and pleas to the public to financially support the rescue group.

On Wednesday, the rescue group posted a picture of Dakota with his new do.

“Our little man is looking good and getting lots of love from everyone at our facility,” according to the post.
