Fuse Presents: Honk Jr. the Musical

Join us for the all ages, musical retelling of the Ugly Duckling

Fuse Theater Company is proud to present: Honk Jr. the Musical! Get your ducks in a row and join us for this music retelling of the classic fairy tale, the Ugly Duckling. After Ida hatches her latest brood, it’s clear one egg isn’t like the others. As Ugly wanders farther away from the duckyard, he meets a cast of characters who try to help him get home to his mother, all while staying away from a hungry Cat! Filled with bright musical numbers, dancing, memorable characters, and discovering that it’s what we’re like on the inside that counts, this all ages show is perfect for new and veteran theater goers alike! Four great chances to see the show! December 6th and 7th at 7pm and December 7th and 8th at 2pm. All performances will be at the Milford United Methodist Church just outside of downtown Milford. Tickets are available online at www.fusetheatercompany.com ($10/8) or at the door ($12/10).

This production features students ages kindergarten through 6th grade, somewhat new territory for FUSE. “The last show we did with this age group was a few years back, but I was really excited to delve back into working with this age group!” Executive Director, Karen Nave, explains. “These kids are so open and eager to learn new things, rehearsals have been really fun and fast paced.”

Students hail from Milford, Highland, Hartland, Waterford, Commerce, and Walled Lake and represent an away of experience levels. They’ll be backed up by a live band and have been working on acting and choreography for the past few weeks. Not only is this an opportunity for younger cast members to take the lead, it’s also an opportunity for younger cast members to step up in other areas of production. “One of the best things about doing a show geared toward this age group is that it gives lots of opportunities. Students who previously had been ensemble or in one or two scenes, now have the chance to be leads. And likewise, I have old kids (high school aged) who have stepped into some behind the scene roles. It’s a great way to let them test the waters with more responsibility without having the pressure of a 75 person cast.”

“It’s been really fun to get to do some of the teaching,” Shea Giese (choreographer) commented. “And really fun to work with the kids. I’m used to being one of the younger members of the cast, it’s crazy how some of these kids look up to us the same way we look up to older members of the company.”

“I’ve been blown away at the talent from our younger cast and can’t wait to work with them again in the future. I’m already trying to figure out ways to incorporate them into the summer show!” said Nave.
