Not only is Grease a fun show, it was a no brainer for Executive Director, Karen Nave. “Five years feels like a pretty nice milestone, so we were looking for a musical that would not only encompass what we’re about, but also be a lot of fun. My choreographer, Lydia Patten, actually suggested this one and as soon as we started discussing it, I knew this was going to be our show.”
Patten agrees, who is also playing Sandy, agrees. “This is one of my favorite shows and I was really excited to be able to choreograph some of the songs I had grown up singing. And it’s been just a really amazing experience playing a character as iconic as Sandy.”
“It’s been pretty great to see everyone working on the songs and choreography, the fun is very much infectious and part of the music,” Nave adds. “As a company, our first show, All Shook Up! was based on Elvis Presley music and had that Rock ‘N Roll vibe to it. It feels really fitting to be celebrating five years with a show similar in feeling.”
It’s also about coming together as a group to produce a really amazing experience. “FUSE has always had a sense of family and it’s really strong in this show as well,” adds Alayna Patten (Marty, choreographer). “In some of the Pink Lady scenes, it just hanging out and having fun with friends. It’s been really nice to build relationships with everyone and feel that comradery grow.”
Shea Giese, a 7th grader, adds that it’s been a lot of fun and perfect show to do with friends over the summer. “There’s a big ensemble scene at the beginning of Act 2, and we’re all in our dance contest dresses and it’s just really fun to do. I can’t help but get energized when we do that song!”
Grease has an 85 member cast, crew, and staff hailing from Commerce, White Lake, Highland, Milford, Fenton, Holly, Novi, Waterford, Troy, Detroit, and Lake Orion and will feature a LIVE 9 piece band. Performances are family friendly and will showcase iconic music from the movie and original Broadway production.
“Five years has flown by. In that time we have produced over 15 shows, introduced student led productions, created a scholarship, and grown in so many ways. It truly has been a wild ride and I can’t wait to see what we do in the next five!”
Come see the show June 22, 7pm, June 23, 7pm or June 24 2pm at the Lakeland High School Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets and info available at www.FuseTheaterCompany.com.
