Man Dies In Accident At Highland Township Construction Site: PD
Deputies said a man was pinned between a dump truck and a wooden road mat used for driving heavy equipment on.
HIGHLAND TWP., MI — A 49-year-old Howell man died Thursday after being pinned between a dump truck and a large wooden road mat, the Oakland County Sheriff's Office confirmed.
The Highland Township Fire Department was called to a pipeline construction site near Woodruff Lake Road and Center Road in Highland Township around 2:30 p.m. Thursday following reports of a industrial accident, the sheriff's office said.
Deputies said a man was pinned between a dump truck and a wooden road mat used for driving heavy equipment on.

Deputies were able to ascertain that the driver of the dump truck was standing outside of his truck between a large pile of the wooden construction road mats and the front driver side of his truck and when the excavator spun to load the truck, it impacted the pile of wooden mats causing a mat to be pushed into the victim, crushing him between the mat and his dump truck, according to authorities.
Construction workers were able to remove the man from between the mat and the truck and deputies attempted lifesaving measures, deputies said. The man was taken to Huron Valley Hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to deputies.

An autopsy has been scheduled, deputies said, adding that MIOSHA was contacted by both the pipeline company and detectives to investigate.
