Program Gives Homeless Dogs a Chance at a Loving Home

Oakland County Animal Control and local rescue group join forces to help homeless pit bulls find loving familes

Volunteers from the Michigan Pit Bull Education Project are hosting a unique event in White Lake Township weekends through Dec. 20.

The Home for the Holidays event is a series of adoption events aimed at placing homeless pit bulls with loving forever families, according to a report in the Oakland Press.

For $75, which includes spaying and neutering, vaccinations, microchipping and heartworm testing, forever families can adopt one of these lovable dogs and help offset the negative stereotype that has plagued the breed.

“This breed is finally coming back, Terry Hodskins from the Michigan Pitbull Education Project said. “Their reputation is really building back up. They are just a mild-natured, happy-go-lucky breed. People are out there with them and people aren’t afraid of them anymore.”

The program is in cooperation with the Oakland County Animal Control, according to the report, and this effort is an experimental one for both organizations.
