LANSING, Mich. — Michigan Senate Majority Leader-elect Mike Shirkey named Sen.-elect Jim Runestad the next assistant majority caucus chairman which was unanimously confirmed by Senate Republicans on Thursday.
“It is an honor and a privilege to be granted this position of leadership,” said Runestad, R-White Lake. “My focus during my tenure in the Senate will be on fighting for the families and the underprivileged in the 15th District. I look forward to hitting the ground running in January.”
Runestad was elected on Tuesday as state senator for the 15th District, and he will begin his tenure as assistant majority caucus chairman when the 100th Legislature takes office in January.
Runestad currently serves in the Michigan House of Representatives, representing the 44th House District. He was first elected to serve in the Michigan House in November 2014. He serves as chairman of the House Judiciary Committee and is a member of the Communications and Technology, Insurance, and Local Government committees.
As senator for the 15th District, Runestad will serve the residents of Commerce Township, Lyon Township, Milford Township, Northville, Novi, Novi Township, Orchard Lake, South Lyon, Walled Lake, West Bloomfield Township, White Lake Township and Wixom.
