Al Sharpton's Group Protests All-White Oscars in Detroit
The Rev. Al Sharpton's National Action Network stages protests in Hollywood, Detroit and across the nation on Oscars Sunday.
DETROIT, MI – The Rev. Al Sharpton will be in Hollywood for Oscar Sunday, taking part in a protest of the all-white slate of acting nominees and calling for more diversity in the entertainment industry, while members of his National Action Network will stage protests in cities in Detroit.

Protests are also planned in across the country, including Miami, Atlanta, Detroit, Cleveland, New York and Washington, D.C.
Sharpton’s organization said it’s important to “take a unified stand for diversity, inclusion and justice in Hollywood” and encourage people to “tune out the Oscars.”

“Let’s send a strong message that diversity in the film industry must be more than a hollow promise,” the NAN said in a statement.
