Woman Who Hid Dead Baby in Desk Drawer Takes Plea Deal

A Wyandotte woman who gave birth at work and hid her infant in a plastic bag in a desk drawer will be sentenced later this month.

A Wyandotte woman who stuffed her infant son in a plastic bag and hid his body in her desk drawer after giving birth to him at work last March has accepted a plea deal.

The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office said Kimberly Pappas, 25, will be sentenced Oct. 26 after pleading guilty Wednesday to second-degree murder in Wayne County Circuit Court.

Pappas originally had been charged with felony murder, first-degree premeditated murder and first-degree child abuse, charges that, if convicted, could have landed her in prison for life without the possibility of parole.

Police discovered the infant’s body on March 31 in Pappas’ desk drawer at Ceva Logistics in Redford, where she had a temporary job. She reportedly had given birth in a toilet stall, and employees called paramedics after noticing blood in the restroom.

Paramedics tried unsuccessfully to resuscitate the full-term baby, who died of suffocation, according to an autopsy.

Authorities have said that Pappas, whose attorney says suffers from mental health issues, believed she had a miscarriage.
