Women Surprised with Free Lunch During Wyandotte Restaurant Week

Shelly Schock and Debbie Swiercz have their bill paid for in the weeklong promotion.

A quick lunch at R.P. McMurphy's paid off Wednesday for friends Shelly Schock and Debbie Swiercz, both of Carleton.

As they were starting their meal, the two discovered that they had been randomly selected as the first winner of the weeklong Wyandotte Restaurant Week promotion, being put on by the Wyandotte Downtown Development Authority and the Wyandotte Business Association.

DDA Director Natalie Rankine and WBA Executive Director Lynn Steffensky were joined by Wyandotte Mayor Joseph Peterson and U.S. Rep. John Dingell in surprising the women with the good news that their bill was being paid for.

"This is great," Schock said. "We like the food here and like coming back to Wyandotte."

The DDA and the WBA had planned on paying for the pair's bill, but Dingell, who was in town visiting with local officials, insisted on picking up the tab.
