Two Newcomers Win Seats on Wyandotte City Council
A recount could be requested as seven votes separate a winning candidate from a losing candidate in the hotly contested City Council race.
Wyandotte voters have returned four incumbent City Council candidates to their seats for another four years, while also giving the nod to two newcomers.
Council incumbents Daniel Galeski, Leonard Sabuda, Lawrence Stec and Sheri Sutherby-Fricke came out successful in Tuesday's election, along with Don Schultz and Ted Miciura Jr.
"I don’t even have words," said an excited Schultz minutes after learning he had won. "I just thank everyone in this city for trusting in me and for supporting me. I want to help move this city forward in the positive direction it’s going."

In the other contested race, Thomas Woodruff beat out his challenger, Jerry Kupser, to become Wyandotte's new city assessor. Incumbent Colleen Keehn did not seek re-election.
Mayor Joseph Peterson, City Clerk William Griggs and City Treasurer Todd Browning were not challenged for their positions.

All of the officeholders will be sworn in during an inauguration ceremony set for 7 p.m. Monday at Yack Arena. The public is invited.
Of Wyandotte's roughly 28,000 residents, 19,550 of them are registered voters. Of those, 2,867 cast a vote Tuesday, leading to a 15 percent turnout.
The results remain unofficial until members of the local canvassing board certify them. That's expected to occur Wednesday morning.
There's also the chance that a recount could be requested as seven votes separate a winning candidate from a losing candidate in the council race.
Miciura came in sixth place with 1,242 votes and edged out Kevin VanBoxell, who received 1,235 votes. Neither candidate could be reached Tuesday night for immediate comment.
The full vote tally can be found below, along with a live blog that was updated throughout the day on Tuesday.
