Wyandotte Federal Credit Union Becomes NuPath Community Credit Union

The credit union, in its 75th year of operation, will now service people in five Michigan counties.

Wyandotte Federal Credit Union has taken on a new name and a new look in the new year.

The business, which served about 110 area businesses, changed its name to NuPath Community Credit Union on Jan. 2.

The business, which celebrates its 75th anniversary this year, has switched from operating under a federal charter (note the word "federal" missing from the new name) and now operates under a new state charter. Due to that change, the credit union can now service anyone who lives, works and worships in five Michigan counties — Allegan, Kent, Monroe, Ottawa and Wayne.

Kathryn White, the credit union's president and CEO, refused to talk about the name change, saying through a spokeswoman that a written statement would be issued sometime next week.

"We have recently changed from Wyandotte Federal Credit Union to better reflect our expanded charter and our continued dedication to guiding you on a path to financial success," the company's website says. "We’re excited about our new name/look and hope you are too!"

According to the credit union's January newsletter, customers should continue using their checks, as well as their ATM, debit and credit cards. When new checks need to be ordered and cards expire, they'll be replaced with ones bearing the credit union's new name.

The credit union dates back to 1938, when a group of 25 employees from Michigan Alkali began it as the Michigan Alkali Employees Credit Union. Over the years, the name was changed to Wyandotte Federal Credit Union. There also is an office in Holland.
