Andover 'Shelter In Place' Lifted, Suspect Not Found

Residents in Andover were urged to stay indoors as authorities searched for a man who fled from deputies Tuesday afternoon.

ANDOVER, MN — The "shelter in place" that was announced for Andover Tuesday afternoon has been lifted, though the suspect they were looking for was not found. Residents in Andover were urged by the Anoka County Sheriff's Office to stay indoors as authorities searched for a man who fled from deputies.

Andover High School and Andover Elementary School went into lockdown during the search.

At about 2:16 p.m., an Anoka County Sheriff’s Office deputy tried to pull over a vehicle near the 14200 block of Hanson Boulevard in Andover. The driver was wanted in connection to a burglary in Hennepin County, authorities said in a news release.

The driver fled before leaving the car and heading out on foot near Andover Boulevard and Kildeer Street, according to investigators Deputies believed the man may have been armed.

A perimeter was established and a public notification was sent out for the immediate local area. A "technology-related issue" resulted in the police broadcast for a shelter in place going out to the general public, however.

Ground and air searches were conducted with a K-9, a drone, and a Minnesota State Patrol helicopter.

"The suspect was not located and we do not believe there is danger to the general public," the Anoka County Sheriff's Office said. The sheriff's office is continuing to investigate.
