Facebook Post Linked MN Woman To U.S. Capitol Attack: Officials

ROCHESTER, MN — A Rochester, Minnesota woman is accused of taking part in the attacks on the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6. Victoria C. White, 39, faces the following six federal charges:

  • Knowingly Entering or Remaining in any Restricted Building or Grounds Without Lawful Authority
  • Disorderly and Disruptive Conduct in a Restricted Building or Grounds
  • Violent Entry and Disorderly Conduct on Capitol Grounds
  • Parading, Demonstrating, or Picketing in a Capitol Building
  • Impeding or Attempting to Impede Law Enforcement Officers Performing Official Duties
  • Obstruction of Justice/Congress

White was taken into custody by special agents Thursday morning and made her first court appearance in the afternoon.

In the days after the Capitol riots, the FBI received an anonymous tip that identified White's involvement, according to the criminal complaint. According to the FBI, White posted the following on Facebook on Jan. 7:

A friend said Delete FB stuff. . . . I stated I’m not scared i was in the capitol DETAINED and they took my social security # name address they are coming for me. I am not afraid of them or anyone!! There I said it Come get me, You don’t know the story, it’s not what you think.

Social media posts, YouTube videos, and security footage showed White among the crowd breaching the Capitol on Jan. 6, according to the criminal complaint. Around 4 p.m. that day at the lower west terrace of the Capitol, police tried to push White back with their riot shields and fend her off with a baton, according to the FBI.

White tried to grab one of the officer's shields, the complaint states. Around 4:11 p.m., officers were able to apprehend White, placed her in zip-tie handcuffs, escorted her through the Capitol building and into a police vehicle, and took her to a police station to process her arrest.

White confirmed her identity, but she was released that night without any charges filed, according to the criminal complaint.

White is the second Minnesotan charged in the Capitol attacks. On March 19, the FBI arrested Jordan K. Stotts, 31, of Moorhead. According to charging documents, a witness tipped off federal officials about Facebook posts that Stotts posted indicating he was involved in the riot.
