Man Drowns In Central MN Quarry Saturday

The past weekend saw at least three water-related deaths in Minnesota.

STEARNS COUNTY, MN — An 18-year-old man drowned in a quarry in Waite Park Saturday. Just after 8 p.m., county water patrol staff were alerted about a person who had jumped into the quarry and never surfaced.

Zakariya Aden Odowa, 18, of St. Cloud jumped off the end of the floating dock. Before the dive team could arrive, the Waite Park Fire Department and Stearns County Sheriff’s Department deputies used boats to locate Odowa but were unable to find him.

A diver found him in about 25 feet of water. Odowa was transported to the St. Cloud Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to a news release.

A 9-year old boy who had previously been reported missing Sunday drowned at Carver Lake Beach, the Woodbury Police Department said.
