Walz lauded the milestone, saying Minnesotans are doing their part to protect one another and end the pandemic.

“Every time a Minnesotan gets their shot, they are protecting themselves and moving our entire state closer to ending this pandemic,” he said in a statement. “We still need more vaccine from the federal government and we have a long road ahead, but we can truly see the light at the end of the tunnel.”

The milestone coincides with the state launching a new tool on Thursday that helps residents refigure out where and when they can get the COVID-19 vaccine. The Vaccine Connector simplifies the registration process by contacting residents when they become eligible for the shot and provide information for when and where they can set up an appointment.

As of Friday, there have been a total of 477,287 positive COVID-19 cases in Minnesota. Of that number 454,910 were confirmed with positive test results while 22,377 were probable cases, according to the Department of Health.

Around 6,412 people have died as a result of the pandemic and 25,368 have been hospitalized.
