Rat Infestation Shuts Down Duluth Elementary School

Pest control workers are currently trapping about five rats per day, school officials said.

DULUTH, MN — Rats! A Duluth elementary school was forced to close for the summer thanks to an infestation of rats. The Congdon Elementary building and grounds will be shut down so a local pest control firm can clear the population of rats.

The rodents were spotted entering through the drainage system. Efforts to reduce the rat population will begin with the least toxic method, which includes pesticide bait boxes.

Officials say the planned methods are compliant with Minnesota Department of Health and Environmental Protection Agency guidelines.
