Minnesota Hospital No. 1 In U.S.: Newsweek

The rankings for 2021 include over 300 hospitals in the United States, 10 of which are here in Minnesota.

MINNESOTA — Several Minnesota hospitals were ranked among the best in America by Newsweek.

The magazine’s “World’s Best Hospitals” list for 2021 ranked the top hospitals around the world, including in the United States. It’s the third year Newsweek has published the list, for which it partnered with the data firm Statista.

Seven Minnesota hospitals ranked among the top 200 in the U.S., while another three hospitals were included in the overall list but did not rank among the top 200.

Here’s how Minnesota hospitals were ranked on the list:

  • Mayo Clinic, Rochester: No. 1
  • CentraCare - St. Cloud Hospital, Saint Cloud: No. 45
  • University of Minnesota Medical Center, Minneapolis: No. 67
  • Abbott Northwestern Hospital, Minneapolis: No. 109
  • Regions Hospital, Saint Paul: No. 124
  • Fairview Southdale Hospital, Edina: No. 130
  • Fairview Ridges Hospital, Burnsville: No. 192
  • Mayo Clinic Health System, Albert Lea And Austin: No. 235
  • Park Nicollet Methodist Hospital, Saint Louis Park: No. 251
  • Perham Health Clinic, Perham: No. 281

In its methodology, Newsweek explained that it looked at three data sources to compile the rankings: recommendations from medical experts, results from patient surveys and medical KPIs on hospitals.

Hospitals in the U.S. were also recognized for infection prevention if they performed above the national average based on data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

These four Minnesota hospitals were recognized by Newsweek for infection prevention:

  • Mayo Clinic, Rochester
  • Regions Hospital, Saint Paul
  • Fairview Southdale Hospital, Edina
  • Park Nicollet Methodist Hospital, Saint Louis Park
