Twin Cities Weekend Construction Guide: May 4-6
From Woodbury to Brooklyn Center, Twin Cities motorists will encounter new closures and lane reductions this weekend.

TWIN CITIES, MN — Don't be caught off guard by a "road closed" sign this weekend. From Woodbury to Brooklyn Center, Twin Cities motorists will encounter new closures and lane reductions Friday through Sunday.
Here are the list of metro area construction impacts that are new as of this weekend:
35W-94: Downtown to Crosstown in Minneapolis
- Beginning 7 p.m. Fri, May 4, Portland Ave. will be closed from 15th St. to 31st St. until 7 p.m. Sun, May 6.
- Detour: Chicago Ave.
- Note: There will be no parking in place. Expect some construction noise throughout the daytime and nighttime.
I-35 in Elko
- Beginning 7 p.m. Sun, May 6, NB I-35 will be reduced to a single lane at Co Rd 2. Once NB I-35 is set, SB I-35 will be reduced to a single lane.
- Note: I-35 will remain two lanes for work, however the lanes will be narrowed through the end of June.

- Beginning 10 p.m. Sun, May 6, NB I-35 will be reduced to a single lane between Hwy 97 and Hwy 8 until 5 a.m. Mon, May 7 to complete the traffic shift necessary for project work to begin. Once complete, the two NB I-35 driving lanes will be separated with concrete barriers.
Hwy 50 in Farmington
- Beginning 8 p.m. Fri, May 4, Hwy 50 will be closed between Hwy 3 in Farmington and Hwy 52 in Hampton until 5 a.m. Mon, May 7. Access to Co Rd 80 also will be closed. Once the full closure is complete, Hwy 50 will be reduced to a single lane with flaggers in both directions through late August.
- Hwy 50 Detour: Co Rd 66
- Co Rd 80 Detour: Co Rd 47
Hwy 61 at 15th St. in Hastings
- NB Hwy 61 is reduced to a single lane through mid-May
I-94 East Metro (Woodbury to St. Paul)
- Through Fri, May 4, there will be daytime crosswalk painting at entrance/exit ramps throughout the project area. Note: All ramps remain open during this work.
I-94 Minneapolis to Brooklyn Center
- Beginning 10 p.m. Fri, May 4, both directions of I-94 will be closed from I-35W to I-394 and both directions of Hennepin Ave/Lyndale Ave. will be closed from Dunwoody Blvd to Oak Grove St. until 5 a.m. Mon, May 7
Hwy 95/Manning Ave. Woodbury to Denmark Twp
- Beginning 5 a.m. Sat, May 5, Hwy 95 will be closed from Bailey Rd. to 70th St. until 10 p.m. that same day
- Primary Detour: 70th St, Woodbury Dr (Co Rd 19), Bailey Road
- Local Residents Detour: Use 40th St. or 70th St. to Neal Ave. (Co Rd 71). 60th St. will be open as staging allows.
Hwy 169 in Belle Plaine, Jordan
- Beginning Fri, May 4, Hwy 169 will be a single lane with head to head traffic traveling on the northbound lanes from just south of Hwy 282 to north of Hwy 25 through mid-August
- Note: For business access, use Hwy 25
- Beginning Sat, May 5, Hwy 169 will be a single lane with head to head traffic traveling on the southbound lanes from south of Hwy 25 to Hwy 19 through mid-September
Hwy 169 in Champlin
- Beginning 8 p.m. Sun, May 6, Hwy 169 will be reduced to a single lane in each direction between Hwy 610 and the Mississippi River until 6 p.m. Mon, May 7. At that time, traffic will be shifted to a single lane in each direction on the NB highway and the SB highway will close.
- Crews will begin preparing the northbound roadway to carry traffic during resurfacing of the southbound lanes of Hwy 169 between East Hayden Lake Road and Hwy 610, reconstruction of the SB Elm Creek Bridge and reconstruction of the roadway between the Mississippi River and East Hayden Lake Road.
I-494 in Bloomington
- On Mon, May 7 and Tue, May 8, WB I-494 will have lane reductions at East Bush Lake Rd from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning.
- Note: Crews will be working in this area the evening of Sun, May 6, you may encounter delays.
