The vigil will be held Monday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Purgatory Creek Park Pavilion (located at the intersection of Prairie Center Drive and Technology Drive).

Cornerstone Advocacy Service is hosting a vigil Monday night in Eden Prairie to remember and honor the people who have been victimized by domestic abuse and violence this year.

The vigil will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Purgatory Creek Park Pavilion (located at the intersection of Prairie Center Drive and Technology Drive). Eden Prairie police will be at the event, as will Eden Prairie’s mayor, Nancy Tyra-Lukens.

Last year, Eden Prairie police responded to 76 domestic assault calls and 275 domestic disputes where no assault took place, according to this blog posted on the city’s website.

“When officers respond to a domestic dispute call, they focus on the immediate medical needs of the victim and ensure that the violator is arrested,” the blog states. “Next, the officer provides resources for the victim so they can get the help they need.”

Cornerstone helps victims after police leave the scene in an attempt to prevent further violence and to rebuild their lives, which may include assistance with housing, transportation, therapy, legal services, support groups and life-skills workshops.
