Former EP Championship Coach to Head Gustavus Gymnastics Team

Charlie Aydt led Eden Prairie to three state titles.

A former Eden Prairie gymnastics coach who led three teams to state championships has been chosen as head coach of Gustavus Adolphus College’s gymnastics team.

“I am proud to announce the hiring of Charlie Aydt as our head gymnastics coach,” a Wednesday news release quoted Gustavus Athletic Director Tom Brown.  “Charlie brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our program.  He is well respected in the gymnastics community, which will help in the recruitment of top student-athletes to Gustavus.”

Aydt coached Eden Prairie from 1986 to 1988 and again in 1991. Under his direction, the team won state titles in 1987, 1988 and 1991.

He’s also coached at Robbinsdale and Park Center.

Aydt has been an independent gymnastics consultant since 1995—helping with coaching duties and mentoring pre-college bound student-athletes in customized programs.

He’s also been a gymnastics judge for the past 15 years. He’s working an average of 50 meets per year and served as a Minnesota High School Gymnastics State Meet judge in 2013.

Aydt now lives in Rogers with his wife, Mary.

“It’s a great honor to take over at such a prominent institution,” the release quoted him.  “I’m excited about the opportunity to rebuild a program with such a great history and I see a great deal of potential within these walls.”
