MN United PAC Offers Extra Help to Jenifer Loon

The group is helping state legislators who voted to legalize same-sex marriage get re-elected.

A political action committee known as Minnesotans United, an off-shoot of Minnesotans United for All Families, wants to help state legislators who voted to legalize same-sex marriage get re-elected.

The group is raising money and mobilizing volunteers to support 15 lawmakers, both Democrat and GOP.

Five of the targeted legislators are Republican, including State Rep. Jenifer Loon from Eden Prairie, the deputy house minority leader. Loon told MPR that she wasn't told about the effort and is not sure if she'll take any money from the group.

"If someone wants to support my public service and my campaign efforts, I'm fine with that," she told MPR. "It doesn't mean they get anything from me other than a thank you note. But I'll cross that bridge when and if I face it."

Originally, Loon didn't cast a vote for or against the same-sex marriage bill that cleared the House Ways and Means Committee in May. During debate on the bill on the house floor May 10, Loon backed an amendment that would replace marriage with civil unions.

When that amendment failed 111-22, she voted for the whole bill allowing same-sex marriage. The bill passed the house vote 75-59.
