West Nile Virus Discovered Near Eden Prairie

The virus showed up in mosquito samples taken in Carver County.

West Nile Virus has returned to the Eden Prairie area, according to the Metropolitan Mosquito Control District.

KARE 11 reports that a sample of mosquitos recently collected in Carver County tested positive for the virus.

Humans aren't necessarily at any greater risk for the bites, the MMCD told KARE 11, but the group urged residents to take precautions to reduce potential mosquito breeding grounds in and around their homes, including checking yards for water-holding bins or other containers like old tires, dumping the water out, and turning the containers to make sure no more water collects in them.
