Clinic Sofia To Collect Period Products for Local Women in Need
Twin Cities' leading OBGYN supports local nonprofits with third-annual drive for products to help women manage their periods.
Recognizing the importance of women’s health and wellness and that not every woman has access to the products she needs during her period, Clinic Sofia is collecting “Crimson Kit” products to donate to two local nonprofits: Haven Housing and People Serving People. More than 500 million women and girls worldwide lack the means to purchase products to manage their monthly periods[1]— a problem that’s compounded for women displaced from their homes.
For the third year, Clinic Sofia will collect period products – pads, tampons, pantyliners, sanitizing wipes, menstrual cups, hand sanitizer, underwear and even chocolate—throughout November to support women experiencing homelessness or displacement due to domestic violence.
“Period poverty, or lack of access to the sanitary supplies one needs to manage menstruation, is a real problem that keeps individuals from reaching their full potential,” said Dr. Erin Stevens of Clinic Sofia. “As we approach the giving season, we are calling on our Clinic Sofia community once again to join us in an effort to give back to the women in our community who need it most by donating period products.”

Products can be dropped off or mailed to either of Clinic Sofia’s locations:
- Clinic Sofia Edina: 6545 France Ave South Suite 490, Edina, MN 55435
- Clinic Sofia Maple Grove: 15679 Grove Circle North, Maple Grove, MN 55369
On Dec. 5, the clinic will open up its Edina office to patients, family and friends to compile the donations and assemble individual bags or “Crimson Kits.” As part of the third-annual drive, the donations will be delivered to Haven Housing and People Serving People ahead of the holidays to help support women this year and into the new year. Last year, Clinic Sofia was able to collect enough supplies to support approximately 30 women through their periods for a whole year.

“Hundreds of women reside at Haven Housing every year so we are in constant need of feminine hygiene products,” said Heather Guerin of Haven Housing, which serves women and children in crisis by providing safe housing and a range of support services. “Purchasing high quantities of feminine hygiene products can add up to a large expense in our budget. Therefore, when organizations and groups do a donation drive for these products, it is not only a huge help to the women we serve, but also to Haven Housing as an organization.”
