Crash Kills 80-Year-Old Woman Mere Blocks from Edina Home

An 80-year-old Edina woman is dead after being involved in a motor vehicle crash only a couple of blocks from her home, according to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner.

The Medical Examiner's office reports Sally Helmerichs, of 5225 Grandview Square, was involved in a motor vehicle crash at 2:34 p.m. on Sunday, April 28. The accident occurred at the intersection of Vernon Avenue South and Interlachen Boulevard, approximately a half-mile north of her Grandview Square residence.

Helmerichs sustained several multiple blunt force injuries in the crash. She was pronounced dead at the Hennepin County Medical Center less than an hour after the accident.

The Edina Police Department is still investigating the incident and has yet to release details about the crash.
