Edina Boys’ Hockey Kicks Off Season With Turkey Trot Wins

The Hornets beat Holy Family and Wayzata over the weekend.

SB Nation has Edina boys’ hockey ranked as the preseason No. 1, and the Hornets didn’t disappoint at this weekend’s  Turkey Trot hockey tournament at the Plymouth Ice Center.

Edina kicked off the tournament Friday with an 8-0 blowout of No. 8-ranked Holy Family. The teams were tied through the first period. But that changed in a big way in the second period, when the Hornets scored five goals. The team followed up with three more goals in the third.

Cullen Munson and Miquel Fidler scored two goals each. Kieffer Bellows, Casey Dornbach, Matt Masterman and Tyler Nanne scored one goal a piece.

Edina’s second game was closer. As in the game against Holy Family, the teams were scoreless in the first. No. 2 Wayzata got on the scoreboard first 1:14 into the second. But seven minutes later, Edina’s Garrett Wait responded. Cullen Munson added to the Hornets’ total, as did Garrett Wait.

The Hornets held onto the 3-1 lead throughout the third to take the Turkey Trot title.
