Edina Peewee C Gold Wins the DAHA Mid-Winter Classic
The Edina Peewee C Gold team followed-up it's Minneapolis Cup victory by winning the DAHA Mid-Winter Classic.

From the Edina Hockey Association: The Edina Peewee C Gold team followed-up it’s Minneapolis Cup victory by winning the DAHA Mid-Winter Classic with games played at Duluth’s Heritage Sports Center and Fryberger Arena.
The Hornets opened the tournament on Friday with a 5-2 win over Osseo-Maple Grove Black. On Saturday, they started the day with a 6-1 victory over Bloomington Jefferson and ended pool play with a 5-2 win over Hastings.
The top four seeds from pool play faced each other in Sunday’s semi-finals with Edina Gold vs. Mound-Westonka and Minnetonka White vs. Mounds View. Edina stunned previously unbeaten Mound-Westonka coming back twice from two-goal deficits for a thrilling 5-4 win in overtime. And, Minnetonka White topped Mounds View 3-1 to earn their spot in the championship game.

It was a fun, rivaled match-up between Edina and Minnetonka with off-ice friendships shared between the team’s players, coaches and parents. The teams had both cheered for each other during earlier games in the tournament with hopes to meet each other on Sunday. Minnetonka jumped ahead with a 2-0 lead in the first period but Edina stormed back in the second period led by three straight goals scored by Evan Montague, then held on for a 5-2 victory.
Montague had an impressive tournament with 3 hat tricks and 19 total points including game-winners in the semi-final and championship games. Goals were also scored in the tournament by Luke Aadalen, Kyle Conte, Hugh Rankin, Reilly Shane, Joe Sabre and Tyler Hewitson. The team was backed by another strong performance from its defensemen Sabre, Shane, Hewitson and Joey Matysik, and by goalie Cutter Larson.

The tournament’s field included Edina Gold, Edina Green, Osseo-Maple Grove Black, Osseo Maple-Gove White, Minnetonka White, Prior Lake, Bloomington Jefferson, Hastings, Rosemount, Mounds View, St. Paul, Mound-Westonka, Eagan and White Bear Lake.
