Fire Damages Edina Home On Amy Drive
Fire crews arrived to discover smoke coming from the home's eaves and dryer vent.

Edina, Minn., May 12, 2020 – The Edina Fire Department was called to the 5900 block of Amy Drive at 4:13 p.m. Monday, May 11, after the homeowner reported a fire.

Fire crews arrived to discover smoke coming from the home’s eaves and dryer vent. They found a working fire in the home’s laundry room that they were able to extinguish thanks to the quick notification and response. Damage was primarily contained so the laundry room. There were no injuries.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

“Thanks to working smoke alarms, the owners were quickly notified of the fire and the owner smartly closed the utility room door, which helped contain and slow the growth and spread of the fire and smoke,” said Fire Marshal Rick Hammerschmidt. “It is also important to ensure you have your appliances checked annually and ensure dryer vents are cleaned entirely before use.”
The Edina Fire Department received mutual aid from the Hopkins, Richfield and St. Louis Park fire departments. The Edina Police Department also assisted with the call.
