Inappropriate Elimination in cats

What to do when your cat stops using the litter box

When cats “think outside the box” and urinate and defecate inappropriately, causes are generally either medical, behavioral, or a combination of the two. Behavioral causes can include a litter box aversion or a preference for another area for elimination. The longer behavioral inappropriate elimination occurs, the more difficult it is to resolve. If your cat starts to urinate or defecate inappropriately, schedule a veterinary appointment as soon as possible to identify and address the underlying causes.
