In an effort to meet Minnesota Pollution Control Agency and Hennepin County waste reduction goals, in 2019, the Edina City Council directed staff to implement a organics recycling program. A study by Hennepin County found that at least 25 percent of our trash is made up of organic materials and can be diverted from the landfill to make compost.

“This program was delayed due to the pandemic, but so many people put in time and effort to keep it on track, and I am super proud of our community for that. During this period, I hope we all spent time evaluating our household and local food systems. What we choose to do with our waste is truly going to impact Edina’s future,” said Organics Recycling Coordinator Twila Singh, who also noted that because of the delay, the dates referenced in the information packets are incorrect, but the information is still very relevant.
