South View Middle Schoolers Make State, Regional Honor Bands

A total of 67 band students from South View Middle School were recently selected for various honor bands both within Minnesota and beyond.

Students participated in a total of 11 honor band events, including highly competitive state events and locally nominated groups.

South View Band Directors Geneva Fitzsimonds and Charles Weise said they were incredibly proud of both the students who made the bands. The two band directors also thanked the students' parents, who they said helped provide the support necessary for musical excellence within Edina Public Schools.

The 2012-13 South View honor band students fall into two camps, auditioned state groups and nominated groups. Auditioned groups involved judges evaluating a student recording from throughout Minnesota, while nominated groups see band directors put forward student names based on rank and instrumentation.
