Sunnyslope Becomes City-Recognized Neighborhood Association In Edina
The Sunnyslope Neighborhood recently completed the process to become a City of Edina-recognized neighborhood association.
Edina, Minn., May 5, 2021 – The Sunnyslope Neighborhood recently completed the process to become a City of Edina-recognized neighborhood association. The City now has a total of 11 recognized neighborhoods, including the Arden Park, Chowen Park, Concord, Creek Knoll, Lake Cornelia, Morningside, Pamela Park, South Cornelia, Strachauer Park and White Oaks neighborhoods.

To become a City-recognized neighborhood association, neighborhoods must establish an organizing team of interested and involved community members, notify City staff that they are interested in becoming recognized, host a neighborhood-wide meeting and submit an application to the City.
“We realized it might be in the best interest of the neighborhood to organize to improve communication between neighbors and with the City,” said Paul Porter, who helped lead the effort. “We look forward to strengthening our ties.”

Recognized neighborhoods are often more involved in the early stages of projects and initiatives and have more opportunities to communicate with the City. The City communicates with City-recognized neighborhoods when significant neighborhood projects are being discussed or proposed, meetings are held about issues that could impact a neighborhood, a developer requests a neighborhood meeting to review a potential development project or when the City plans to organize a neighborhood group for resident input.
“As a City, we encourage community engagement in community projects and Edina’s Neighborhood Connections program creates a platform for the City not only to share information directly with the neighborhood associations, but for neighborhood associations to communicate back to the City,” said Community Engagement Coordinator MJ Lamon.
