Twin Cities Photographer Selected as 2013 Edina Art Fair Featured Artist

There's still several inches of snow on the ground, but that doesn't mean it's too early to start looking ahead to the 47th annual Edina Art Fair.

Set to run from Friday, May 31, to Sunday, June 2, this year, the annual community extravaganza at 50th & France is starting to come together. The planning for the event is well underway, which includes the annual selection of the festival's featured artist.

The 2013 honors go to Inver Grove Heights-based photographer Chase Lindberger, whose vibrant photograph "Surge III" will be featured on all promotional materials for the Edina Art Fair this year. That includes brochures, posters, t-shirts and advertising.

“The committee felt the colors were powerful and fun,” said Rachel Thelemann, director of the 50th & France Business and Professional Association. “We wanted to feature a contemporary image that represented the area.”

Lindberger has been taking photographs for more than 25 years, watching the field evolve alongside his own photographic journey.

"I can remember my first few cameras and just thinking of all the possibilities of things to photograph," Lindberger said in a release.

Today, he shoots images both using traditional film and digital cameras, saying he admires the "creativity that both offer in their own way."

"The things that I am drawn to most when shooting are; details that most do not stop to see, looking at the everyday in a unique or different angle, bold bright colorful subject matter, and textures which are abundant in my work," he said. "I like when people are left with the question of, “What is that?” and wanting to know the story behind the image." 

The 2013 Edina Art Fair is set to feature 320 fine artists and crafters from all over Minnesota, the U.S. and Canada, drawing an estimated 150,000 attendees during it's three days. It has been nationally recognized as the top art fair in the state, and is currently the second largest in all of Minnesota.
