WATCH: Edina’s First Handicap Accessible House to be Demolished

The lot will be divided in two to make way for new homes.

Miriam Kiser’s home at 5633 Tracy Ave. is unique in Edina. It was built with her wheelchair-bound husband Rex in mind shortly after the couple married in 1949, making it the first handicap accessible house in Edina. Rex was paralyzed when a piece of shrapnel hit him in the spine and paralyzed him during World War II.

The house is now scheduled to be demolished as part of a recently approved subdivision.

Agenda: Edina took a look back at the house’s history in a video posted to YouTube this week.
