Woodward Unloads as Hornets Romp Past Andover to State Tourney Semifinals

In their first state tournament appearance in more than two decades, the No. 3 seed Edina Hornets came out of the gates absolutely on fire.

Edina blew open what started out as a close game before the end of the first half, taking it into halftime with a 51-27 lead. They never took their foot off the gas the rest of the afternoon, finishing the day up 99-61 over their opponents.

The team was led by an absolutely incredible performance from senior guard Graham Woodward, who managed 40 points against the Andover Huskies by the end of the game.

Woodward was simply on his game Wednesday afternoon at Target Center, sinking 16 field goals, a trio of three-pointers and going 5-5 from the key during the opening round of the Class 4A boys basketball state tournament. He finished the game with five rebounds, seven assists and three steals for the Hornets.

Keep in mind, Woodward wasn't the only player on the court. Fellow senior Reggie Lynch had an equally impressive 24 points, one assist, six blocks and nine rebounds against the Huskies, while forward Mark Handberg finished the day with five points and seven rebounds.

Senior Dane Teuteberg contributed with five points, six rebounds and one steal, while sophomore Ben Boone had two points, three rebounds and three assists.

The Hornets now have to prepare for No. 2 seed Park Center (26-3) at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Mar. 21, at the Target Center. The Pirates squeaked past Lakeville North 74-72 Tuesday afternoon.
