City Liquor Store Re-Opens After Storm Damage

Last Friday's storms took out power to thousands in Fridley—and they also took out Fridley's city-run liquor store.

"Looking through the surveillance video (from early Friday morning), it looked like a rain storm in the store," said Fridley's Director of Finance, Darren Nelson.

Nelson oversees the Fridley Liquor Warehouse, and spoke with the store manager about the extent of the damage.

"The store manager said that if you didn't know any better looking at the security footage, you'd think you were watching a video of the parking lot, not the inside of the store," he added.

The wind and water found their way into the store through a portion of the store under construction. Damage included destroyed product, damaged equipment, soaked ceiling tiles, and standing water on the floor, Nelson said.

"It's been a week of cutting sheetrock" getting the store back in fighting trim, he said. "It never helps to be out of business the week before the Fourth of July, especially if you're a liquor store."
