Update: Power Outage in Fridley, North Metro Due to Substation Breaker Problem

Utility spokesman blamed the power outage on equipment failure.

Update (1:20 p.m.):

Xcel Energy spokesman Tom Hoen said that power was restored  shortly before 1 p.m. Thursday to  2,000 customers who remained without electric service. 
Hoen said that at 11:10 a.m., about 12,500 customers lost electric service when the utility experienced some equipment failure.  after crews replaced a faulty breaker at a substation late Thursday morning.
About 10,500 of those customers had power restored an hour later, he told Fridley Patch.  WCCO reported that Xcel crews replaced a faulty breaker at a substation late Thursday morning.

Fridley and several other cities in the Twin Cities late this morning lost power with Xcel Energy reporting about 12,500 customers were without electric service. 
An Xcel Energy spokesman told the Star Tribune that as of about 12:30 p.m. all but a couple thousand customers had their electric service restored. 
The cause for the power outage was not immediately known.
Fridley Patch readers said Fridley High School and Hayes Elementary School were among places in the community that lost power.
