The City had been looking into the issue since early 2020 after the Minnesota State Legislature adopted a bill that allows limited authority to cities to set speed limits on streets under their jurisdiction.
In 2020 the City and its engineering consultant, SEH Inc, conducted a speed limit study and in 2021, the City published a survey for residents to share their input. The survey revealed 123 respondents (52 percent) did not want to see a speed limit reduction on residential streets.
