Golden Valley: Retirement Refuge for Hollywood Star

The actor who played The Lone Ranger in the 1950s television show left showbusiness for the sake of his child.

The cry of "Hi-oh, Silver! Away!" may not be a familiar sound around Golden Valley today, but 50 years ago when Hollywood actor Clayton Moore retired to the city following The Lone Ranger television show, the show's eponymous character was a fixture of city life for many years afterwards.

According to the Star Tribune, when the television show in which Moore had starred for several years wrapped up in 1957, Moore's wife was less than thrilled with raising their child in Hollywood. Instead, the family moved to Golden Valley and started a real estate company called Ranger Realty. 

For years afterwards, the newspaper reports, Moore would put on his cowboy costume and do rope tricks in his driveway or sign autographs for neighborhood kids.
