Learn About Alerts And Warnings During Severe Weather Awareness Week In Golden Valley

In today’s world, technology can communicate with us almost anywhere and provide advanced warnings of impending hazards or other important information. Knowing where and how you can receive these warnings and what to do when you get them can mean the difference between life and death.

The Minnesota Department of Public Safety website provides detailed information about severe weather alerts and warnings, including personal weather alerts, siren activation, and types of warnings.

You’ll learn about the various types of wireless emergency alerts and personal weather notifications available and how to subscribe, as well as about emergency preparedness and awareness apps available for cell phones. You’ll also learn about when and why sirens are activated and the difference between weather advisories, watches, and warnings.

Practice warnings are scheduled for Thursday, April 15 at 1:45 pm and 6:45 pm for a statewide tornado drill. Outdoor warning sirens and NOAA Weather Radios will sound in a simulated tornado warning. The first drill is intended for institutions and businesses. The evening drill is intended for second shift workers and families.
