Mountain Bike Riders Needed for Readying Newest Part of Trail in Wirth Park

Mountain bicyclists, enthusiasts and anyone interested are invited to a special opening of a new section of mountain bike trail in Theodore Wirth Regional Park.

The event begins at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, and everyone will meet at the northwest corner of Theodore Wirth Parkway and Glenwood Avenue. 

The Minneapolis Off-Road Cycling Advocates, Minnesota Off Road Cyclists and the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board are behind the event. 

Riders are needed to compact the trail and get it ready for riding. This will help shape the final trail tread before native plant restoration begins later this fall. Fatbikes are encouraged if you have one. 

Otherwise bring your favorite mountain bike. The loop is a little less than one-mile in length, includes many rollers, tabletops, bermed corners and is constantly rolling up and down one of the largest hills in the Park.

Even if you don’t ride, we’d like you to be there to check out the area and learn a few things about mountain biking and sustainable trails. Check the MORC website for any cancellations due to rain. Everyone is welcome.
