2021 Pavement Management Program (PMP)
This year’s PMP will reconstruct 1.27 miles of City streets in northwest Golden Valley (see map). Scheduled to begin late April or early May, the project will also repair storm sewers, water mains, and sanitary sewer mains and bring curbs and gutters up to City standards. Work is expected to be completed this fall.
Railroad Crossing Improvements
The Union Pacific Railroad will replace crossings at 10th Ave N and Mendelssohn Ave N near the intersection of the two streets. Although exact timing of this work is not yet known, when the project begins each street will be closed for approximately one week. Detours will be posted ahead of time, and information regarding the closures will be published on the City website.

Laurel Ave Mill and Overlay
Laurel Ave, between Jersey Ave and approximately 400’ west of Xenia Ave, will receive a mill and overlay this summer (see map). The project will include repairing defective curbs and gutters, upgrading pedestrian ramps to be ADA compliant, and some minor utility work. Once the new asphalt it paved, this stretch of roadway will be striped to include bike lanes as part of the 2021 Bike Lane Striping Project (see below).
Highway 55 Trail and Mill and Overlay
MnDOT will be performing a mill and overlay on Hwy 55 between General Mills Blvd and Hwy 100 this summer. As part of the project, a new trail will be installed along
the southside of Hwy 55 between Winnetka Ave and Glenwood Ave. The road is not expected to close, but lane shifts will be used to move traffic around the work zone. Most milling and paving efforts on Hwy 55 will take place on weekends. Construction is scheduled to begin July 2021.
2021 Bike Lane Striping
The City is proposing striping several miles of bike lanes throughout Golden Valley. The project is the same as was proposed in 2020 with some minor changes made to the designs on 7th and 10th Ave. The project is expected to begin early summer.
