A Perpich Arts High School student was recognized with a prestigious national art award. Hailey Peterson, a 12th-grade student, enjoys telling stories with comics.

“My stories are things I’ve experienced, things I’ve noticed through other people,” said Hailey.
These stories cover deep issues. Hailey’s stories cover topics like depression, suicide and isolation. Hailey’s instructors say the student’s artwork shows depth and real human experiences.

“Hailey can take those emotions and maybe the human conditions and has the ability to express and feel those things in ways that aren’t visible to the outside. Hailey tells those stories through internal dialogue or sides that we may not see in public with these stories and presents them as intimate moments,” said Cameron Browne, a visual arts instructor.
