Egged On by Brother and Cousin, Teen Crashes Audi After Swiping it From Local Garage

Police recovered a customer's Audi a few blocks from Tommy's Garage and arrested an 18-year-old attempting to flee the scene.

An 18-year-old man from Minneapolis faces a felony motor vehicle theft charge after a bizarre series of events way back in May.

The criminal complaint filed Sept. 6 against Justin Boyland, and signed by Mark Kyllo of the Hopkins Police Department, indicates Boyland admitted to stealing an Audi from Tommy's Garage on Main Street and taking it for a short joy ride before abandoning it and fleeing the scene.

Police arrested him based on witness descriptions.

Boyland told police during post-arrest interviews that he took the car after being egged on by his brother and cousin and took the car before they could, according to the complaint.

Boyland faces up to five years in prison if convicted and given the maximum penalty for the first-degree burglary charge. His next scheduled court appearance has been set for October.
