Hopkins Recognized With 2019 Water Fluoridation Quality Award

The City of Hopkins has been recognized by the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) with a 2019 Water Fluoridation Quality Award for its excellence in water fluoridation. In Minnesota, 70 fluoridating community public water systems received this award for 2019. This annual award is presented to communities who maintain a consistent level of fluoride in their drinking water throughout the year. The City of Hopkins has received the award 8 times since 2002.

Fluoride is natural to our environment. It is used in our public water supply to prevent tooth decay and has been shown to help prevent cavities. Studies show that community water fluoridation is responsible for preventing up to 25 percent of tooth decay in children and adults.

“Drinking water is something we frequently take for granted but is critical for our community,” said Hopkins City Manager Mike Mornson. “We are proud of our Water and Sewer Division for the work they do to keep our community healthy and this award is a demonstration of that commitment.”
