21-Year-Old From Inver Grove Heights Drowned: Examiner

Police said he had been missing since Saturday, where he was last seen at a sports bar.

INVER GROVE HEIGHTS, MN — The cause of death for 21-year-old Jacob Michael Lavoie, a University of Minnesota-Duluth student from Inver Grove Heights, was ruled a drowning by the Midwest Medical Examiner's Office Monday. Lavoie's body was found on Sept. 6 at the Minnesota Slip near Canal Park in Duluth.

He had been missing since Saturday, after he left the nearby Grandma's Sports Garden.

The toxicology report is pending.

"Jake was a son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend. Many lives were impacted and improved by Jake's presence," reads the GoFundMe page established for his family.

"The devastation and pain are deep and complex with this unexpected, tragic, and sudden loss."
